Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday immediately got down to work, approving five promises that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) made in its manifesto. Naidu took charge at 4.41 pm at the Secretariat in Velagapudi in Guntur district.
Right after reducing the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress (YSRCP) to 11 Assembly seats, Naidu, who contested the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Pawan Kalyan’s JanaSena Party (JSP) and BJP, announced that Amaravati would be the sole capital of the state. He also announced his intention to revoke the Land Titling Act and decided to increase pension amounts, publish an annual jobs calendar, and order a skill census.
Significance of the Amaravati decision.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu today announced that Amaravati will be the capital of Andhra Pradesh. A day before his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of the state, he announced that Amaravati will be the only capital of the state. Chandrababu Naidu made this announcement while addressing a joint meeting of TDP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janasena MLAs. In this meeting, he was unanimously elected the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
Chandrababu Naidu said, ‘There will be no game in the name of three capitals in our government. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital.’ As the first Chief Minister of divided Andhra Pradesh during 2014-2019, he had put forward the idea of making Amaravati the capital. However, his idea suffered a setback in 2019 when the TDP was out of power and the YSRCP led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy won a landslide victory.
Revival Of Amaravati: All You Need To Know About Andhra Pradesh Capital
The political landscape of Andhra Pradesh has once again turned its spotlight on Amaravati, the ambitious state capital project. The return of the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party to power has reignited hopes among farmers and residents who have long been advocating for the development of Amaravati as the sole capital of the state.
This renewed focus comes after a tumultuous period under the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party, which had floated the idea of a triple-capital set-up for the state — executive capital in Visakhapatnam, legislative in Amaravati and judicial in Kurnool — leading to years of protests and uncertainty.
Naidu took more decision.
Clearly, Naidu will call shots in the next government. He will certainly seek his pound of flesh. What if he wants Union Home Minister Amit Shah out of Modi 3.0 cabinet.
The June 4 performance is even more significant for Naidu. He has not just swept the Andhra Pradesh by winning 16 of the 25 seats, he has also won the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections by bagging 135 of the 175 seats. Both Lok Sabha and Assembly polls were held simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh.
Clearly, Naidu, whose TDP fought both elections as an NDA partner, doesn’t need BJP’s support to form the state government in Andhra Pradesh. Also Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh has already promised that the Congress-led government will grant special status to Andhra Pradesh.
What about jobs, investments, and other schemes?
Chandrababu Naidu’s dream Amravati project revived, will cost Rs 40,000 cr. He has pledged to restart the city’s development, rekindling hopes. Workers and engineers say they have received instructions to proceed, said an Indian Express report.
“We are clearing weeds and vegetation around buildings; we should complete the pending work soon,” the national-daily cited a contractor as saying.
In Tulluru, dense vegetation around high-rise apartments intended for the state’s MLAs is being cleared. The report mentioned that the executive engineer confirmed he has received directives to resume work, with finishing touches being applied. “The approach road to the buildings and the trunk road connecting Tulluru to other areas will also be laid soon,” he said.
“Naidu spoke of welfare plus development during the campaign. This is his first step towards it. This will also be a crushing blow to the YSRCP after its defeat as it will show the people how a government can function without relying too heavily on welfare schemes,” said a senior TDP leader.
