‘Marty Supreme’ movie review: Timothée Chalamet peddles destiny in Josh Safdie’s monumental trial of self-worth

The movie wants the audience to feel what Marty is going through. His confusion, his desires and the fact that he still has hope even when things seem tough. Marty Supreme is a movie that puts the audience in Martys shoes. Destiny is not a dream in this movie. It is a weight that Marty has to carry. He makes a promise to himself. That promise becomes the thing that helps him and also the thing that hurts him the most. Destiny is, like that for Marty it guides him. It also torments him.

The world just does not agree that Marty is great. Marty wants to be great so badly that he keeps doing things that hurt him. Timothée Chalamet shows Marty as a man who makes his suffering and that is what makes him so interesting to watch. Marty is a man who wants greatness. The world refuses to give it to him and that is what causes all his problems.

The Safdie makes Martys mind like a place that’s full of danger and surprises it is like being, in a city that is very tough and unpredictable.

The phrase “peddles destiny” is really important to understand the movie and Marty as a person. Marty is always talking about his future like it is already happening. He tells people that he will be successful and famous and he even tells himself this even when things are not going well. Marty thinks that his future is set so he talks about it all the time.
