Medical aspirants, parents from Maharashtra seek state medical education minister’s intervention in NEET 2024

As opposition to the NEET result continues to intensify across India, a group of parents of medical aspirants from Maharashtra have written to the state government seeking intervention.

Amid ongoing fiasco over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024, many medical aspirants and their parents from Maharashtra have approached state medical education minister Hasan Mushrif requesting intervention.

Apart from demanding a stay on the soon-to-begin admission process, there are also demands to conduct a CBI probe on the recently declared NEET result.The NEET-UG 2024result was declared on Tuesday. Soon after its declaration, medical aspirants, parents and others flagged various irregularities such as unprecedented number of perfect scorers, unlikely score by some toppers due to grace-marks which was never informed in advance, potential malpractices and even paper-leak.

Demands for Cancellation and Re-examination

As medical aspirants turned to online forums with their complaints, many also demanded cancellation of the result and even a re-examination.opposition to the NEET result continues to intensify across India, a group of parents of medical aspirants from Maharashtra have written to the state government seeking intervention.

There are many discrepancies in the NEET exam 2024 and the subsequent result, raising serious concerns. There was no provision for grace marks, yet such marks were given to some students. The unjust grace-mark policy has resulted in an increase of the All-India rankings by 50,000 to 60,000 without transparency. This has resulted in great loss for Maharashtra candidates. In Maharashtra too, it will be difficult to bag a seat in a government medical college,” state letters sent to Mushrif seeking his intervention while also demanding a CBI inquiry into the irregularities.Responding to the media on the issue, Mushrif said, “We understand concerns raised by medical aspirants and their parents.

No student from Maharashtra should be left out without admission because of the issues in the entrance test, which has multiple perfect scorers this year as opposed to only two candidates last year. We will forward parents’ representations to the National Testing Agency.”

Meanwhile, a group of parents of medical aspirants from Maharashtra are planning to move the Bombay High Court against the NEET-UG2024 result.The results are such that no student of Maharashtra will get admission for the MBBS course in government or private college in the state.” He said parents of many students have approached him seeking to address the issue. “This (the results) has caused injustice to Maharashtra and it must be immediately cancelled.”
