NIRF releases ranking for top colleges 2024

NIRF: On Monday, August 12, 2024, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the highly anticipated 9th iteration of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024. Every year, the NIRF Rankings evaluate and rank Indian higher education institutions according to a number of factors.




According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024 for colleges, which were revealed on Monday, Hindu College, New Delhi, has secured the top spot. Miranda House is now in second place. Miranda House, which topped the list the previous year, has dropped a spot. Third position in the college rankings goes to Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College.The top three colleges in India last year were Presidency College in Chennai, Hindu College in Delhi, and Miranda House in Delhi. Miranda House also won the top spot among universities in 2022.



In an overall category ranking by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), IIT Madras was named the best university in the country, followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru in second place, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in third place. Next in line were the Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi, Kanpur, and Kharagpur.



16 categories received the rankings, compared to 13 the previous year. This year, the NIRF included three new ranking categories: state, skill, and open universities. The overall, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dentistry, legal, architecture and planning, agricultural and related industries, and innovation are among the other categories for which rankings were released today.




The NIRF Rankings are now in their ninth edition. IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta are in the top five in the management category. Five broad parameters are used by the NIRF rating framework to evaluate universities. Specifically, graduation outcomes, outreach, inclusion, and perception; teaching, learning, and resources; and research and professional practice.

After making the NIRF Ranking 2024 announcement, the Union Education Minister said, “I want to appeal through this programme that every Indian higher education institution should come at ranking. This will help the students and their parents better understand the institution. This will also promote quality education. The participation of educational institutions of the country in NIRF is gradually increasing… I would like to appeal through today’s program that gradually all the higher education institutions of India should come in. Due to this, the students and parents of the country will be able to know in which type of institutions their children are studying and the children themselves will also be able to know in which type of institution they are studying. This competition will increase the quality of education in the country…A lot of reform has been done in the existing accreditation process. It has been made very transparent…”
