Uttarakhand: 14 tourists killed as tempo traveller from Noida falls into Alaknanda River in Rudraprayag.

At least 14 tourists were killed and 12 others injured when a tempo traveller with 26 people onboard skidded off the road and fell into the Alaknanda River on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand on Saturday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and said that the local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in the rescue and releif operation.

What happen so far.

Around 12 people were killed and 14 others were injured in the accident that occured on Saturday in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag.

According to Garhwal Inspector General of Police KS Nagnyal, the all of the 26 victims were tourists, with most of whom belonged to Delhi.

They were headed towards Chopta from Noida when the temo traveller skidded off and fell into the 150-meter-deep gorge.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh met the people who were injured in the Rudraprayag Tempo Traveller accident and said, “It is very important for the injured to get proper treatment. Their families are being informed one by one. We have made all the arrangements to make sure that they get all the further required treatments…I have directed an investigation into this (accident)”.

Uttarakhand CM has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, ANI reported.

SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra told TOI, “The cause behind the tragedy is yet to be ascertained. As per our information, there were 26 people inside the vehicle.”
Meanwhile, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union home minister Amit Shah expressed grief over the mishap. Dhami instructed district officials to ensure that best possible medical attention is provided to the injured.
Garhwal Inspector General of Police KS Nagnyal said that the victims of the accident were tourists on the way to visit Chopta.
Nagnyal said 26 people were in the vehicle and most of them were residents of Delhi. Ten people died in the accident, the IG said.
